Evolution Longplay (ColecoVision Game)
- Evolution Longplay (ColecoVision Game) -
Evolution presented an innovative concept for its time, a rarity in the gaming landscape. The game follows six distinct stages of development, ranging from the earliest amoeba form to the pinnacle of human evolution. Each level features unique challenges and objectives.
Begin as an amoeba gathering genetic material while evading various threats like spores, microbes, and antibodies. Progress to the tadpole phase, where consuming four(or sometimes five - not sure why) flies is crucial for advancement, while steering clear of voracious fish.
The rodent stage demands devouring five blocks of cheese amid snake avoidance. Level four involves guiding a beaver across waters infested with alligators, collecting sticks to construct a dam.
Enter the gorilla phase, defending a stash of oranges from thieving monkeys by hurling coconuts. In the final stage - the human one -wield a laser gun to fend off mutants aiming to conquer the earth.
The game's simplicity offers diverse and enjoyable gameplay. However, its limited replay value becomes apparent due to its brevity. Completing the game, a task accomplished in approximately 7 minutes, results in it restarting from the initial stage.
Despite an increase in difficulty during subsequent runs - where some extra enemies are also introduced - it lacks the compelling factor to keep players engrossed. Certain stages pose considerable difficulty, often leading to unavoidable deaths, making progression challenging. But even so, these harder levels fail to maintain sustained engagement or enticement.
Nevertheless, credit goes to the developers for crafting an original game that can be considered groundbreaking. It definitely paved the way for more intricate, sophisticated, and acclaimed releases within the gaming industry.
