Scorpion Longplay (Arcade Game)

Zaccaria, the Italian company renowned for its exceptional pinball machines, also dabbled in arcade game production from the late 1970s to the mid-1980s. While their pinball expertise was formidable (I'm a self-professed enthusiast, you might have seen my "Zaccaria Pinball" table longplays), their foray into arcade games, in my opinion, yielded mixed results. However, amidst the mediocrity, gems like Scorpion shone through.
In this classic space shooter, players assume command of a spaceship navigating levels replete with enemy encounters and perilous obstacles.Comprising five distinct levels, the game presents a challenge that might border on the vexing, yet undeniably each stage boasts a unique and original design.
From demanding lightning reflexes in one stage to requiring swift, accurate shooting in another, and further to levels demanding meticulous precisionโany slight miscalculation could send your spaceship crashing into rocky obstacles, forcing a restart from the level's outset. You can't ask much more from an 80s arcade space shooter. Scorpion delivered a varied and demanding experience for the time.
I've seldom found favor with horizontal shooters, yet this title managed to captivate me. Its quality is a testament to its allure. Consequently, it's no exaggeration to crown Scorpion as my cherished arcade offering from Zaccaria.
Ps.
I was confidently navigating the levels, aiming for a flawless run without any casualties. However, reaching the fifth and final level, I overlooked the existence of a final boss encounter. Mistakenly recalling that evading the aliens along the tunnel's edges was all you had to do, I pressed forward. It was only later that I noticed a colossal obstacle blocking my path, just too late to avoid a fatal confrontation.
