Manhattan Longplay (Arcade Game)
- Manhattan Longplay (Arcade Game) -
I've come across plenty of peculiar games in my life, but this one takes the cake for being the quirkiest arcade game in my book (tying with Funky Fish for that top spot). Picture this: a guy in Manhattan, bouncing on a trampoline, scaling buildings, aiming for those top-scoring balconies while descending. It's an image that feels outlandish, especially for the early '80s.
The game's enjoyable, but it's a frustrating ride overall. Admittedly, the frustration eases a bit once you get the hang of it. Yet, mastering the perfect jump timing remains elusive. Relying on a bit of luck leaves you perpetually irritated throughout the entire game.
I managed to showcase everything this game offers, but I'm left a tad annoyed. I had to let go of some better games (more points, longer playtime) just because I couldn't spell 'DECO' in full or execute that flawless jump to reach the tallest point on the right building (49 feet). You can't have it all in this game, lol.
Seriously, 'batmaning' through buildings and dodging balloons is cool, especially as the game amps up the challenge, demanding precise timing. But there's a moment when balloons suddenly pop up mid-ascent at breakneck speed, signaling it's time to call it a day. And I obliged...
