I couldn't pass up the chance to explore an abandoned aqueduct tunnel out in the desert! It definitely qualifies as an unusual place, right? The hike to this particular site is one of those hikes that not many people know about. In fact, as I was returning to my car after completing the hike down into the gorge, a local approached me and struck up a conversation. He kindly asked that I not blatantly expose the location of this hike in my video because it is a beautiful, pristine location that is free of graffiti, vandalism, trash, and crowds. In fact, when I was hiking down into the gorge, I didn't encounter a single person all day. It was great!

The hike down into the gorge is a little difficult at the start where the trail is steep and rocky. Further down, it levels out. The abandoned aqueduct tunnel is in the bottom of the gorge level with the river. The tunnel cuts through the peninsula that you just hiked on, and you can go to either portal. I was unable to find any information about this particular aqueduct tunnel and why it was apparently never completed and therefore never used. The river is spectacular and runs through the deep gorge in alternating sections of whitewater rapids and calm pools. The entire gorge is stunning in its beauty, peace, and solitude! It's amazing how millions of years of flowing water can carve the landscape as it did here. Enjoy the video!
