Oh boy! There were SO many interesting features in this massive, multi-level, abandoned mine including a flooded vertical shaft of unknown depth, a main haulage tunnel that’s 2000 feet long (609 m), colonies of dive-bombing bats, endless tunnels, lots of heavy-duty timbering, and scary artwork from an unknown painter.

Here in Part 1, I explore most of the main haulage tunnel and one of its branching drifts that leads to a large, flooded vertical shaft. While wandering through endless tunnels, I came across a few colonies of bats hanging upside down from the ceiling. They appeared to be quite active and healthy.
