Tucked in a remote, hard-to-reach corner of Joshua Tree National Park that few people visit is the well-preserved, abandoned Moser Mine. We finally undertook the long, arduous hike across the desert under a blazing sun to reach this amazing abandoned mine and mining camp. As we suspected, the tunnels and mining camp are literally strewn with artifacts -- many of which are in the same place and condition as they were on the day the miners walked away over 30 years ago. This video highlights our exploration of the tunnels, mill site, and workshop where we found jars of cyanide, cans of oil, old machinery, glass bottles, a tram cable, a tarantula, all kinds of equipment and tools, and many other things.
As far as we can tell, the Moser Mine was worked briefly in the early 1980s. Before that, it was worked in the early 1970s for a time. Before that, it hadn't been worked in many decades. Gold, silver, and lead were mined at the Moser Mine, but it doesn't seem to have ever been a big producer. Back in the day, it must've been a lively place. Now it sits silent under the scorching desert sun patiently awaiting the return of the miners who walked away over thirty years ago.
