I couldn't think of a better way to start the new year than by exploring a type of abandoned mine that I've never been in before -- a zinc mine! The Golden Treasure Chest Mine was a small zinc mine out in the Nevada desert that I had passed by many times over the last few years. Today, though, I finally stopped, hiked up the access road, and explored the mine. It was a small mine but had its own peculiar and scenic charm.
