F-15 Strike Eagle - 1984 - Atari 8bit
2I consider this Microprose's first master piece. This is because F-15 Strike Eagle put together most of the gameplay elements which would be present in combat flight simulation games in the next decades. It has missions with different maps, it has aircrafts, anti-air defense and bases to bomb, it has a detailed cockpit, action over land an sea, aircraft carrier landings and so on.
The game is not without faults, the flight itself and the scenery is a far cry in quality from Flight Simulator and I have a suspicion this was intended to be an F-14 game (as the F-15 is not carrier based and F-14s were involved with Libya). Yet, due to its wealth of content, I think this game is in the top 3 games of 1984.
