F-Zero GX on Switch 2 GameCube Classics: Master Class beaten with Magic Seagull
this ship is awful. it has almost nothing going for it and has several problems that make it diffcult to drive well. to start with the less bad stuff, it has extremely low non-boosted and boosted top speeds which makes it very slow on average. the booster picks up speed decently but maxes out at very low speeds, comparable to a D grade boost. now, getting to the really bad parts, this ship's strafe is one of the weakest in the whole game (strafe is how much the ship moves to the sides when you hold L or R). normally, a weak strafe is not much of a problem since you just have to anticipate it and press the buttons earlier but with this ship it's weak to the point it affects the ability to use quick turns since the lack of movement causes the QT to fail sometimes. if this wasn't enough to make things bad, the ship has one of the widest shapes in the whole game. you'd think a wide shape would add stability but in this game, after a certain point, having too much width causes big problems when landing from dives or jumps since the ship's interaction with the ground gets glitched up and some pretty weird things happen. also, the ship being too wide gets in the way in narrow roads and it is really hard to get the double zipper effect from the edges of zippers since the hitbox doesn't align with the ship's edge and you can't see well where you should be.
the only good thing it has is the grip which is good enough to not slip in most places and holds well often.
i'm playing using the Wii U GC Adapter and an original GC controller. i also have an input display to show what i do during gameplay. the input display also comes with a function to change sensitivity and that lets me get around the sensitivity problem present in this version. it feels much closer to the original. there's still the input lag but it's more manageable.
