Qualifying for the Canadian GP is over and the rain held off as George Russell takes his first pole position since 2022 and he did it by setting the exact same time as Max Verstappen in the Red Bull as Ferrari fell away with both drivers getting eliminated in Q2 as Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz both really struggled with the balance of their car, Lewis Hamilton in the other Mercedes did look strong during the weekend but it all fell away during the final part of qualifying. Sergio Perez in the other Red Bull had a disastrous qualifying as he was eliminated in Q1 yet again and Perez will have a lot of work to do in the race.
Aston Martin looked more impressive this weekend as Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll both made it into the final part of qualifying as the circuit characteristics suit their car. Going into the race I anticipate that even though Russell is on pole position it will actually be the Mclaren's of Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri who give Max Verstappen a hard time as the race pace of Mercedes is typically a little bit weaker than their qualifying pace.
What else did we learn, well lets watch and find out.
