Face Hugger - Explained (Alien Lore)
The FaceHugger from Alien explained.
The Face hugger is part of the first stage of the Xenomorph life cycle. They will lie dormant Inside an Ovomorph aka an Alien egg.
They are yellowish-Beige in colour, with a long tail and eight long legs. Resembling a spider crossed with a human hand.
When a potential host animal enters within close-enough proximity to the egg, the egg will open up; and the FaceHugger will use its Coiled tail to leap out of the egg and attach itself onto the victims face. Using its legs to Grasp around the head of the host, and its tail to wrap round the neck.
Once attached, The Facehugger releases a natural sedative, sending the host into a comatose-state, to prevent it struggling or even biting the FaceHugger.
They are even able to secrete acid to get through any protective armour, masks or helmets.
It will then insert its reproductive organ, a Tube-like appendage, down the victims throat and deposit an embryo into their body.
The FaceHugger then uses its twin Air sacks to pump air down the hosts oesophagus, essentially breathing for them and preventing them from suffocating.
In their comatose state; the host is incapable of breathing without the facehugger, and it also has Acidic blood for a defense mechanism; it is therefore almost-impossible to remove it without killing the host.
After it has successfully impregnated a victim; its purpose fulfilled, the FaceHugger will detatch itself and die. The host will then awaken, with amnesia, not remembering the encounter and having no idea of what just transpired or of their impending fate.
The Gestation period for the Chestburster can be various amounts of time; Hours or minutes, depending on film. And once the Embryo has grown into the next stage, The chestburster; will force it’s self out of the victims body cavity; killing them in the process.
Apart from the standard Facehugger that creates Hybrid Xenomorph strains; there is another type known as a Royal or praetorian FaceHugger for pure strains. Some depictions of these can impregnate 2 hosts, with one embryo to create a queen xenomorph to lay more eggs, and another to create a drone to act as a worker and find more hosts. And some depictions of them just have the one embryo for a pure-strain xenomorph.
Thoughts
SO that was the Xenomorph FaceHugger explained. What do you think of them? I actually think they are Scarier than an adult xenomorph; and most would probably agree it’s better to die by a quick head-bite from a drone or Warrior than die from a chestburster. They are very creepy in my opinion and resemble how some real-world animals reproduce like Tarantula-Hawks.
