You can now safely drive horizontally or vertically or even diagonally without re-placing your car/tank. As of right now, it is only in the experimental branch, so you would have to choose one of the newest experimental versions. The currently newest version is 2.0.47
Apparently in the version 2.0.46 there might be a bug with sending items to space if there are multiple platforms requesting that item, that should be fixed in 47.
