The long answer to "why not flamethrowers?" when the short answer is just "landmines are easier to reposition." Perhaps something to care about when each expansion means moving fully half of all the static defense.

That said, a deconstruction planner discarding 30k light oil is a pretty forgettable cost at this point. I might yet flamethrower once further into this ribbonworld, I might also keep skipping, haven't decided. The engineer is a fickle conqueror.
