In this video I look at an article that was posted on PC GAMESN that discusses Bethesda's latest entry to the Fallout franchise; Fallout 76. Fallout 76 is going to be the first game in the series to feature multiplayer and an always online game. This article discusses some of the issues that a lot of multiplayer games have to deal with on a daily basis. The article is based on interviews from Developers working on Rust and others working on Dauntless.

FALLOUT 76 - GRIEFERS, CHEATERS, VATS & SERVERS (Article Analysis)
Hi guys, so today I wanted to dicuss an article that has been posted on PCGAMESN.COM and talks about one of the new problems Bethesda will face with Fallout 76 due to it being a fully online game. And that problem is cheaters & hackers. The article covers interviews with some of the Developers at PHEONIX LABS who worked on RUST, and some from RIOT GAMES who have worked on DAUNTLESS, a recently released free-to- play online monster hunter game. Anyway the article overall is essentially highlighting some issues that Bethesda needs to be aware of before the game releases in November, and not necessarily stating how Bethesda will handle the problems.
The article discusses the problems that cheaters can cause to developers. A quote from a developer at Pheonix Labs mentions that
'Detecting and removing players for cheating is easy enough, but that’s a short term measure.'
But later goes on to mention that long term solutions include educating their players, understanding why some of their players feel the need to cheat and also rewarding players for good behaviour.
Further down the piece there's dicussions about Griefing, VATS & servers. As we have heard from numerous interviews, Bethesda are assuring us that griefing will be almost impossible due to all the mechanics they are allegedley putting into place. A suggestion in the article is that perhaps players under a certain level, level 5 for example can't be killed so a newcomers first experiences aren't ruined.
The other main topic of the article is servers and how this is likely to be problematic especially in the beginning. And I think this is probably one of the biggest reasons for the Fallout 76 Beta which we still have no idea when it's coming out. The developers who were interviewed stated
“Servers are going to die no matter what you do”
They basically talk about that you can test and test the game but it is inevitable that there will be server problems and Bethesda need to
be prepared, because it will happen. Severs will cause issues most noticeabley with gun play and probably VATS as it has been confirmed that VATS will be in real time.
Overall it's a pretty interesting article, not too long and gives some insight into problems developers have to deal with. And to be fair I don't know much about how anti-cheat and things work so I recommend you have a read.
