Fallout Dev Reveals The Real Reason CRPGs Died In The Early 2000s
Despite the industry trying to convince us that there was a lack of demand for genuine RPGS back in the early 2000s, it seems the industry manipulated events to ensure sales of CRPGS were poor so that could push the narrative that all gamers want dumbed down, console focused games.
This is all the more relevant in a post Baldur’s Gate 3 world which has revealed games with depth WILL sell if they have a chance to reach mainstream audiences.
The industry continues to manipulate the idea that gamers really want live services, they don’t simply want single player titles. This is a lie that companies use purely to try and push impressionable people into playing the “trendy” live service titles that are better at extracting money.
I’m hopeful the CRPG doesn’t die a second time around, I hope BG3 can start a resurgence that sticks around this time.
