I get a lot of questions about this. I'm here to CLEAR IT UP! This is what happened, I think.

What exactly happened at the end of Dragon Age Inquisition

There is a lot of confusion as to what happened at the end of Dragon Age Inquisition in the final scene. This is my interpretation with all the extra evidence I have to support it.


Here is Mythal’s hand against the elluvian. I think she is putting a PART of her soul away in there for safe keeping because she knows that Solas has come to her to kill her and take her power. I have two reasons for thinking this:

1.) The developer notes data mined from the game say that she knows he is coming to kill her and taker her power.
2.) She has put parts of her soul inside things before when she thought she was in danger of being killed.

Okay so TWO things here. Solas is fen’harel. Duh by now. And “you should not have given your orb to corypheus”. It implies that Solas gave his orb to corypheus on purpose. BUT in the Nerd Appropriate podcast with Patrick Weekes, the man who wrote solas, Patrick remembers the lines as “why did you let corpypheus take your orb”. This could have been a slip, but I think this is something to think over.

“I was too weak to unlock it after my slumber”

Many people assume he is talking about the orb, but what if he isn’t. What if he is talking about the elluvian that the other elvehn gods are locked behind? This is a big what if, but what if indeed.

So now we have Solas and Mythal embracing. Some would consider this a very intimate embrace. Mythal calls solas “old friend” and I would consider this a motherly embrace. I do not think that they were lovers, nor do I think that she is his monther. But I do think they were very close friends, and mythal’s domain is motherhood so her embrace would be as such.

Now here is the point where everyone thinks that mythal took over solas. But as I said before, it was Solas killing mythal. I think mythal’s plan after this is for morrigan to come get her soul out of the elluvian and have Solas carry out the rest of her plan for vengeance. She is not in control of Solas’ mind, she has simply manipulated him into doing what she wants. Just like how she has been manipulating history for the last 1000 or more years.
