Keith Ramsay is a friend of Jason and a successful Wall Street banker. He decides to take some time off from his demanding job to go traveling with his friends.
After being captured by Vaas, he was sold into slavery by Hoyt Volker, and is sold to Buck. It is heavily implied that Buck raped Keith while Keith was in his possession. Jason learns Keith is in Buck's possession and begins to hunt Buck
When Jason finally confronts Buck with the release of Keith, Buck decides instead to make a trade: he will give Keith back to Jason only if he retrieves the ancient dagger of the Rakyat - the very one Citra asked Jason to find in order to gain her trust - for him. During Jason's search for the dagger, Buck makes remarks towards his treatment of Keith and even threatens to hurt him more if Jason doesn't listen to him at times.
When Jason finally acquires the dagger, he presents it to Buck, who leads him to Keith. Keith is shown to be very scared and visibly afraid of Buck and begs Jason to get him away from him. Buck soon states he can't let either of them leave, so Jason fights him to the death, and succeeds.
Later, when Jason brings Keith back the cave where Liza, Daisy Lee, and Oliver Carswell are hold up, Keith confides in Jason to keep what happened to him a secret, not wanting the others to know. Keith later tells Jason that he believes Riley to be dead, stating that he saw him get shot.
Far Cry 3 returns the series to a tropical island setting, similar to the first game and unlike the second game, which took place in an African savanna setting. Players will assume the role of protagonist Jason Brody, part of a group of friends on vacation who are captured by Vaas, the leader of a group of pirates working for a slave trafficking ring. Jason escapes and now seeks to rescue his friends. In the short trailer that was the first footage released of the game in development, Jason interacts with Vaas (voice, motion capture and facial motion capture by Michael Mando), who gives an unsettling monologue about the nature of insanity before trying to drown Jason by anchoring him to a cinder block and throwing him into a natural pool of water that has clearly been used repeatedly for this purpose.
Early developer interviews provided little about Jason's backstory, aside from the fact that he possesses a strong skillset as a combatant and survivalist that give him a fighting chance in the desperate circumstances he constantly finds himself in during the events of the game.
More recent interviews have hinted at a change to the story in that Jason is now emphasized to be a man out of his element, with no particular training who just happens to be caught up in the island's chaos as he searches for his friends. At the same time, the story will try to invoke that after a time on the island, it will start to have an effect on the protagonist, showing another side of Jason's personality, according to producer Dan Hay. Developers have also stated that the intended tone of the game will be one of realism.
