Akane and Azami

It's no secret that the village held many rituals and ceremonies, in fact it was even celebrated as festivals. Though as happy and fun festivals tend to be, there is no joy to be had in what this village celebrates, for with every ritual, a child dies. The village happened to be built over the entrance to hell or the 'Abyss' as it was known to the locals and every few years, a ritual had to be made to appease the abyss or else a calamity would strike the village, killing everyone and everything in it. This was the fate the twins Akane and Azami were given. Akane being the oldest meant she had to strangle her twin sister, her best friend and most understood person to death at such a young age, not that there's any age where such a thing is easy. Forced by her family, her neighbors to kill her sister, Akane was left as that 'remaining' a term given to the twin who survives the ritual and therefore inherits her sister's soul becoming 'whole'.

But she wasn't whole, far from it. Such a horrible deed and irreplaceable loss left a hole in Akane's being, she was losing her soul. Her father saw this and decided to create a doll to accompany his lost daughter, to some how amend the damage. He spent sleepless nights crafting this doll, shaping it in the form of Azami to the point where it was indistinguishable from her.

When he presented it to his only daughter, Akane's eyes lit up with joy. Finally she had been given back her sister! She snatched the doll from her father's hands and held it close to her chest, embracing her sister's return. Her father couldn't have been happier, he felt successful as a man and as a parent, his daughter was happy and that's all he wanted.

Days had passed and he noticed Akane developing an unhealthy obsession with the doll. She truly believed that it what Azami and was extremely protective over her. At night he could hear wooden clanking in the rhythm of footsteps running out side his bedroom. The next day he saw Akane had changed, she'd become aggressive if he so much as looked at the doll. He knew it was turning his daughter in to something evil and soon sorely paid for his mistake.
