FE Hack Reviews #5: Super Hard Lyn Mode by MarkyJoe1990 [PRL & CH1 P1] - My First FE Hack...
Oh god... anything but this hack...
Introducing the first Fire Emblem ROM hack I ever made, called Super Hard Lyn Mode. It is in a VERY LOOSE SENSE, a prequel to Fire Mumblem. Many of Fire Mumblem's inside jokes come from this hack and BuringPenitentEngine's Let's Play of it. As I progress through it, I will explain these jokes.
... Did I mention that this hack gets REALLY stupidly hard after a while? Let's just say that my obsession for giving enemies huge pools of HP came from this ROM hack.
Anyways, since MOST of the text is left unchanged, I will skip the cutscenes. I'm assuming you're all familiar with the original Fire Emblem 7, so you probably know all about Lyn's tale... well... except the part where Lyn's a mage.
In this video...
- I enter my name
- I greet generic bandit #1
- Lyn gets sent to the Bronx Zoo
- Lyn fights the new and DEGRADED Batta the Beast
- Civilian shows off her epicness (See Civilian)
- Glitch Rath debuts (See Glitch Rath)
- I try way too hard
- Lyn realizes her lack of durability
Glitch Rath:
In some chapters, you might notice that the turn doesn't auto end when you've moved all of your units. To fix this, suspend and resume the game. Glitch Rath will appear.
Glitch Rath is perhaps the most infamous glitch in Super Hard Lyn Mode. He has the exact same stats as normal rath, but does not have any items in his inventory besides a fimbulvetr spell (Which Lyn can use to kill foes instantly once she reaches an A Rank in anima magic). His biggest advantage over normal rath is that he starts at Level 0 but with the same stats as normal Rath (Who is at level 7), making him infinitely more useful and practically broken.
In Old Fire Mumblem, Glitch Rath makes a return. He is recruitable by stepping on one of the stairways in Episode 5. He starts at level 0, but has no stats, however, he has perfect growths, so training him will turn him into the most powerful unit in Old Fire Mumblem.
If you use the Chapter Unit Editor module for Nightmare (A Fire Emblem editting program), you may notice that some unit slots are empty. By filling these slots in an attempt to add extra units into some chapters, I caused this glitch to occur, and thus Glitch Rath was born.
Civilian:
This is the unit that filled that empty slot I mentioned earlier. As such, Civilian is indirectly the cause of Glitch Rath.
Civilian is an extremely powerful unit that can wipe out EVERY unit in Chapter 1 with ease, including the boss. It's important to not let her defeat enemies because not only will she deprive you of much needed experience that you could be using for Lyn, but she will nab the invaluable thunder tome from Zugu if she kills him. Rescue her and never let her go.
Civilian is seen in JadeWyvernRider's Fire Emblem 6 hack, Fire Emblem: Real War Chronicles. The Civilian's function is the exact same in that hack.
