The federal government has disclosed plans to roll out Malaria vaccine on Bayels and Kebbi state before the end of 2024.
National Coordinator, National Malaria Elimination Programme, Dr Godwin Nyador gave the indication at a media parley in Abuja.
According to statistics, Nigeria contributes 27 percent malaria burden and 31 percent deaths globally with Kebbi State recording the highest trend.
The NMEP boss who stated the resolve of government to reduce Malaria prevalence in Nigeria to10 percent,added that the new vaccine which will later be deployed to all parts of the country will help achieve the target.
Dr Ntador also spoke on other strategies like provision of anti-malaria medicine, distribution of treated mosquito nets and seasonal malaria chemopreventive treatment rolled out by NMEP to reduce the malaria scourge in Nigeria.
On their part, some development partners took turns to speak on the malaria burden in Nigeria and the urgency to root it out.
Research findings indicate that Kebbi, Sokoto and Zamfara states have the highest burden of malaria in Nigeria with Lagos and kwara states recording the least.
