NUC Harps On Effective Universities Curriculum

The Acting Executive Secretary,National Universities Commission, Chris Maiyaki has advocated for continuous curriculum reforms in the nations university system.

Maiyaki gave the indication while delivering a keynote address at a workshop organised by the British council in Abuja.

The NUC boss who noted that Teaching and learning experiences, in the 21st century, are evolving at an unprecedented rate, emphasised reasons for constant review of the curriculum to proactively contribute to the future of education.

Maiyaki further said the Core Curriculum and Minimum Academic Standards (CCMAS), introduced in 2022 by the NUC in the nations university system is a compilation of measurable benchmark of knowledge, 21st century skills and competences expected to be acquired by an average graduate of each of the academic programmes, for self, national and global relevance.

Earlier, the Programme Director, British Council, Chikodi Onyemela, said the council was inspired to organize the workshop in the view that the curriculum in the Nigerian University system requires immediate modification that will respond to the current contemporary needs.

The theme of the 1 day workshop with participants drawn from various universities in the country is "Enhancing Curriculum and Pedagogical Approaches in Nigerian Universities.
