The Independent National Electoral Commission says 8 Political Parties out of the 10 that conducted primaries for the Edo state Governorship elections were yet to upload the list of personal particular of their candidates to the commissions portal.
INEC Chairman Prof Mahmood Yakubu disclosed this at the first quarterly consultative meeting with the Media in Abuja.
Yakubu restated the position of the commission on adhering strictly to the electoral timelines, saying there would be no extension of time for parties who miss the deadline.
Commending the media for its advocacy on reforms in the electoral process, Prof Yakubu however raised concerns on the effect of fake news about the commission and it's activities.
In his remarks, President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Chris Isiguzo, applauded INEC’s disposition to ensure that every vote counts and every voice is heard.
Other details relating to the safety of journalists during elections and timely access to information among others were raised and discussed at the meeting.
