A sidescrolling Beat ‘em Up with an 8-bit visual style, but with a different kind of camera that always shows just a small portion of the screen. It doesn’t change anything mechanically — it’s purely aesthetic — but it’s interesting and gives a stronger sense of focus.

It’s a very simple game: room after room filled with enemies, but it’s still really good. It uses only three buttons — jump, dash, and attack — but it creates a very simple and addictive rhythm, where you observe each enemy’s pattern and time your hits or dashes just right.

The developer also put a lot of care into the game’s pacing, which is super important for a Beat ‘em Up. He never (or at least it feels like he never) repeats the same enemy configurations in a room. There are no repetitive challenges, and there’s a wide variety of enemies, which prevents that feeling of just beating up hordes of enemies for no reason. That’s one of the main things that separates a good Beat ‘em Up from a bad one.

This design choice where each room is its own level, and dying sends you back to the start of that room, also makes the pacing faster. It’s more common to see this kind of design in precision platformers like *Celeste*, but I really liked how it worked in a more action-oriented game too.

It’s not amazing — it still plays very simply. I haven’t tested it on hard mode to see what changes, but it’s definitely better than it looks. It’s super cheap and short, and if what you’ve seen looks interesting to you, it’s absolutely worth it.

The developer is Blaze Epic. He has several other similar games, some with more of a precision platforming focus, but also some more action-based ones. He used to make +18 games, but it looks like he changed his mind and removed them. Unfortunately, they’re no longer available for purchase, but I still really want to check out his other games. This one surprised me and was much better than it seemed — maybe the others are too.
