FIGHTIN' WORDS #48 - If It's Not Wing Chun, Then What is It?
In this video, I talk about the good old armchair martial artist statement: "What they are doing isn't real Wing Chun."

ABOUT THIS VIDEO: I am so sick of people who don't know anything about a subject running their mouths, but then again that is the world in which we now live. Any internet troll can say whatever they want.
That in and of itself wouldn't be so bad...if it weren't for the fact that people tend to BELIEVE everything they read these days.
Well, unless of course someone PRAISES Wing Chun.
Then they are skeptical.
I started the martial arts in 1993. For six months I took Judo. Then for another six, I studied at a school that was more Wushu-esque than it was Kung Fu. Finally, in January 1995, I came across Wing Chun.
More or less, I never looked back. I say "more or less" because there were times when I dabbled in other styles. Sometimes this was because my Wing Chun class was held only once a week, and I wanted to train more. In those instances, I sought something that was at least close, which resulted in me attending two different Jeet Kune Do classes.
(SIDE NOTE: One of them was not like Wing Chun because, whereas you will find a lot of JKD schools that favor the Kali/Escrima side, this school favored the Western Boxing portion. The second JKD class focused more on trapping, which made it very similar to Wing Chun, so I stuck with that one for a while.)
In other cases, I attended a school of another style for cross-training purposes. That is why I took some Western Boxing lessons.
Finally, I started attending classes at the Chinese Martial Arts Academy (oddly enough, the same school where I took the Wushu stuff many years ago) because that gave me the chance to use my Wing Chun in a sparring environment.
With my martial arts resume, you can see that I have clearly done Wing Chun for 98% or more of my training. So my question is this: "If you see me sparring and say I am not doing Wing Chun, then can you please tell me what I AM doing?"
