Fighting Regiments of War of Rights - 6th Louisiana Infantry “Tigers”
The 6th Louisiana Infantry Regiment was mustered into Confederate service in May of 1861 at Camp Moore, Louisiana. The men mustered into the 6th represented all walks of life, wharf rats to the High society of New Orleans. Among its men included 24 different nationalities, which consisted of french-speaking creoles, irish, italians, spaniards, germans, french, and many more. Just like the other regiments from Louisiana, the 6th had an infamous history of having an outrageous behavior in camp. The 6th Louisiana would first see combat at the Battle of First Manassas but it wouldn’t be until Jackson’s Valley campaign and the Northern Virginia Campaign would they would earn a name for themselves. During this campaign they would gain the name of Louisiana Tigers, which was first held Wheat’s Tiger Battalion, a smaller yet equally famous Louisiana unit.
Thanks to Captain Bradley of the 6th Louisiana Company D for being a guest narrator!
Currently, you can find the 6th Louisiana on the map of Hooker's Push
