A cover of the famous Final Fantasy prelude, done by myself in Monotone, a tracker for DOS that can create PC speaker music.

Yes, good old 1-bit audio a la 1981! :)

This track is the result of about 2 days of carefully transcribing sheet music, laying out notes, lots of beer, and finally recording the entire thing via DOSbox. I hope to one day run this through an actual IBM PC speaker for that authentic feel. :)

While I know that sometimes the tempo of the prelude is slightly faster than this cover, the tempo I went for is closer to that of the prelude from Final Fantasy VI. Setting it higher would make it closer to that of the NES original of many of the future games in the series.

For other intrepid chiptune musicians, download Monotone here: http://www.oldskool.org/pc/MONOTONE

(It's of course DOS based, so be sure to either have an old PC or DOSbox handy!)
