Final Fantasy. Need I say more? What can I say about this gem that hasn't already been discussed before. We all know how the name came to be, we are all well aware of the major players in this saga - Sakaguchi, Amano, Uematsu - sages in their own right, masters of music, story and art.
This was my first real RPG growing up so it means a lot to me. It's not on my top ten, but it holds a special place in honorary mentions. It was right around that age I was becoming a geek. I was just discovering Dungeons and Dragons, watching anime for the first, reading fantasy novels, and playing RPGs for the first time. I loved getting into a battle and drawing each of the enemies and making stat cards to be used in table top games like DnD or Hero Quest.
I brought the instruction manual to school with me when I was in 6th grade to show my best friend how awesome even the manual was, and he dropped it in a puddle by the swings. It dried out, but I still tease him about to this day.
I went back through it in College to max it out and that was almost ten years ago. I was very surprised when I fired up my NES after all this time and perfect save was still there. I was so giddy.
