Part 6 in my Solo Fighter walkthrough for Final Fantasy I NES.

The natural thing to do after beating the first Fiend is go for the second Fiend right? Well it probably isn't the best choice in a solo game. You'll want to get the Airship and some of the more useful items as early as possible. Heck, some people will do that and then beat the Fiends from Tiamat-Kraken-Kary(Marilith).

So after beating the Earth Fiend I can get the canoe. I do it and head off to the Ice Cave. The Basiliks make a return here, and you don't have the ability to protect against instant petrification yet. Stunning enemies return in their full capacity, and on later floors Frost Dragons can do some harsh damage, and mages like Astos can rub you easily.

The main treasures to look for are the Ice Shield, and the copious amounts of money. However, fighting the Eye is the priority here. It will be great training pretty soon. but for now being at a reasonable level will help you kill it in 2-3 hits. 25+ is recommended. After you beat it get the Floater and leave, thankfully only needing a couple of floors worth of walking before you leave.

Head to the small desert in the south and use the Floater, instant Airship. Restock on potions as per usual and in the next part we'll get two vital pieces of equipment that will render the Eye virtually harmless, as well as negating other monsters' instant death attacks. I'll train on the Eye for a while too, though I won't max my level just yet.
