Final Fantasy I NES - Solo Fighter - Part 9: Kraken And Tiamat
Part 9 in my Solo Fighter walkthrough for Final Fantasy I NES.
Two Fiends dead, two remaining.
This is a long part, which will be followed by a relatively short part and then the final dungeon.
I first start by getting the Slab in the eastern section of the underwater dungeon. There's some opal equipment in here but I don't think the Fighter can use it. Then I trek back to the beginning of the dungeon and take the west path. As far as I remember there's not much new in the ways of enemies, only upgrades of old ones and the Water Elementals which like the other Elementals tend to hit quite high but nothing else special about them. Just keep your HP at a reasonable level at all times (I try to end battles with 500+). I don't think there's any useful treasure in this dungeon for my Fighter so I didn't bother collecting any. Kraken is fairly simple, he can inflict Darkness with Ink but as you masy have seen from other videos, Darkness isn't as severe as in later Final Fantasy games. He is weak to Thunder, but has a high magic defense to negate this. Lit3 with a Black Mage or maybe Zeus Gauntlet with a White Mage might be helpful, other than that I'd just go straight melee.
So next up is Tiamat. First head back with Slab in hand to Melmond and hand it to the guy in the north east of the town. Doing so will teach you Lefeinish. Head to the north eastern continent and land on the bit of grass you can. The enemies here are similar, although I believe not identical to the PNEoP. Head into the town south of the forest and speak to the guy in the south west of the eastern segment. The ultimate spells for your Black/White Wiz are here too.
With the Chime in hand its time to go into the desert and enter the Mirage Tower. This will be a very long journey, so I suggest 99 Heals (although you should be trying to max your stock from pretty much every dungeon after you reached Elfland). Remember that Vampire enemy that we annihilated in a few hits back in the Earth Cavern? well he's a regular enemy appearing in this tower in groups. Considering how much better our equipment and stats are, he's a walkover now. The Blue Dragon is something to watch out for, Heal up before the encounter square as it/they can hit hard.
After reaching the fortress in the sky you'll notice an increase in monster difficulty again. Nothing our guy can't handle. I get the Bane Sword as it CAN be useful, but I don't think I use it. It's also worth getting the Adamant for Excalibur, although it's only equippable on a Knight. It is actually supposed to have the property of all elements meaning it does more damage than its stats suggest, but as I said before attack bonus v monster type x on weapons are bugged and so don't work. There is a slightly confusing bit in the dungeon, the grid section can prove annoying, head right twice and then up twice. I don't fight Warmech on the bridge, but to be honest I wasn't going to waste time to show it. And yes a solo Fighter can beat it, even the White Mage can with a bit of luck.
Tiamat is the fourth and final fiend. I didn't actually find her much harder than the Blue Dragon. I didn't want to abuse her lack of resistance to break, but the Bane Sword can inflict it upon her and end the fight. She also lacks poison resistance. Yeah. Just fight normally and don't be a dick.
I end the part outside with a full stock of Heals and outside the Temple of Fiends. However, I go kill that eye again in the next part to get level 50. The part after that is the ToFR/Chaos/ending.
