Part 2/22 in my Final Fantasy III - NES walkthrough.

I start by heading off to castle Sasoon, and looting the western tower. At the top you'll find a Griffon. It shouldn't be too hard, but if you've saved a Sotuhwind it should end in a round. Defeating it awards you with a Wight Slayer for your Red Mage. Head to the central building and talk to the king. He will mention his daugher Princess Sara. Also loot the treasures in this building, which along an almost unmissable secret path. The wall along this path will be of a darker shade, the Ice spell should be slapped straight on a Black Mage. Finally loot the eastern tower before healing up and heading out to the cave across the river to the north.

The cave the Genie resides is fairly simple, as are the battles for the most part. Make sure to get al the treasures along the way, and like the first dungeon know where the 'secrets' are in order to progress fully through the dungeon. Towards the end you'll meet up with King Sasoon's daughter, Princess Sara. The enemies here are a bit harder, so try to be fully healed before each battle. The genie himself is weak to Ice, so if you've kept back a Southwind or two the battle should be a breeze.

Afterwards head back to Urr and meet up with Cid, he'll devise a plan to break down the rock blocking the way out of the region. You'll need a Mithril Bow for your ship, and the best place to get the materials for it is in the Mithril Mines located in the town you're in. The enemies inside are similar to the previous dungeon and as such shouldn't cause you problems, especially after you obtain some Mithril equipment too.

Once you've obtained some Mithril for the bow, head back to the Blacksmith of Urr and he'll forge the bow. Smash the rock with the Airship and drop Cid off at his home in Canaan. Loot this town and buy some more equipment as you see fit. Next time Midgets & Vikings.
