Part 4 in my Solo Fighter walkthrough of Final Fantasy I NES.

I start by heading back to Astos' Keep and looting the treasures with my newfound Mystic Key. You can avoid the battlew with the image(s) by avoiding the encounter square, of course you can also use these kinds of squares to farm xp/gold quicker (but probably not this one).

I stock up on some more of the essential items for dungeon crawling in Elland. If you're doing a solo run, avoid Softs, as who can unpetrify you?

I try using the Power Staff in battle, to see if it has any useful effects. I think I was confusing it with the later game Staves that will prove very useful, and this one is just an upgrade for your mages.

To advance the story we need to head to Corneria. There are treasures to loot in the Marsh Cave, but I'm playing this run for absorb, rather than mages which tend to play for evade (and the Marsh Cave is annoying anyway).

Loot the treasures in Corneria with the Mystic Key in hand and with the TNT depart for the Dwarves home in the mountains west of Corneria. Loot the treasures here, you'll notice a Dragon Sword, in later incarnations of Final Fantasy I this would prove useful for it's secondary property, but considering it doesn't have one in this game (or if it does it's glitched) keep your Silver Sword for now and just sell it or drop it. The Silver Plate is nice though. Hand the TNT to the Dwarf near the southern set of treasures and leave (I was stupidly expecting to see a similar cut scene to the DoS version I played through).

I enter the town located here and learn of their plight at the hands of the Earth Fiend. Not much else to do here, but look at the price of that expensive Steel Armour, so I depart for the Earth Cavern and begin training in the Hall of Giants, so called because of the numerous encounter squares located there. One cycle is enough for now, so afterwards I head back to Corneria to restock on Heals.

I finish with one more cycle there, before heading back to buy that Steel Armour. I save outside of the Earth Cavern ready to take on the Earth Fiend in the next part.
