Final Fantasy IV [ファイナルファンタジーIV] Introduction - WonderSwan Color
Original Air Date: June 30th, 2009
This game needs no real introduction does it? Or the whole series for that matter? WonderSwan has a few Final Fantasy games, but this one (the one we own) is by and large the biggest anomaly of them all. The reason is the circumstances on which it was released.
As I've said before, the WonderSwan has A LOT of support from Squaresoft, from big name titles like Final Fantasy and SaGa to original titles like Blue Wing Blitz and Wild Card. Final Fantasy was one of the early titles for this handheld with the release of Final Fantasy and Final Fantasy 2 (which are similar to the improved versions on the GBA, but it predates it, and Final Fantasy Origins). The mysterious Final Fantasy 3 (not FF6 in the U.S., but the Famicom game) was in the works but ultimately cancelled due to problems with the game's size and trying to enhance it on the WSC like FF1 and FF2. As strange as it sounds however, they would later skip FF3 and release FF4, the first Final Fantasy for Super Famicom (released in the U.S. as FF2).
That's kinda freaky isn't it? Regardless, FF4 is not an update like the first two, but more or less a standard adaptation of the SNES/SFC game, which there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. The game is very impressive for a WSC game with great audio/visuals comparable to the SNES/SFC game (though the SNES/SFC game is better, this was a valiant effort) and all the great gameplay and story the game was known for, except it's portable! It's an oldie but a goodie.
I would wow some of my gamer friends whenever I turned up playing this game. They'd always say stuff like "Wow, isn't that Final Fantasy!? What is that system?". Ahhh... good times. Enjoy.
