Golden Axe [戦斧] Game Sample - WonderSwan Color
Original Air Date: June 29th, 2009
As I was doing some research on some of the WS/WSC/SC games I own or have played and checking YT for WonderSwan videos, it's apparent to me that there really needs to be more videos for this handheld.
Ahh... good old Golden Axe. As far as the audio/visuals, the game is a very good adaptation of the old game from the late eighties. The framerate is a smooth 60FPS (slowed down to 30FPS here) and the music has been modified slightly as well as the visuals to suit the handheld, and the end result is great. The game also has a little more dialogue and the ability to save your progress.
However, the gameplay has also been tweaked somewhat, and not for the better. The three brawlers retain their abilities, but the A.I. is cheaper, enemies deal more damage, the monster helpers don't run away like they did in the original (they stay around if you can catch them in time, which is actually annoying because I accidentally mount them when I don't want them), movement is more sensitive, hit detection is off, etc.
This video will demonstrate a couple of things, ranging from exploitation (how to beat enemies easily, which I didn't use much here to save on time... it's just constantly jumping and attacking) to max level magic failing to kill normal enemies. Needless to say, this game is much more enjoyable with two players via a link. Enjoy.
