Final Fantasy IX Perfect Game Leftovers - Hades
This is the first of hopefully many videos focusing on some of the leftovers of the Final Fantasy IX Perfect File.
Once you obtain the Excalibur II, the first thing I did (and you should too) was immediately fight Hades, and unlock the Legendary Synthesis Shop. However, I couldn't just approach him immediately and fight him, because none of my characters has any stat-maxing setups available since I just completed the EX2PG challenge. So therefore, I have to get everyone infected with Virus so that no one gains EXP.
To prepare for Hades, I encountered a Chimera on the screen before the Memoria-Portal save point. If you didn't know, any attack on Chimera forces it to use a set triple-counter on the character who attacked it. Chimera first uses Venom Breath, which Antibody negates. Next, it will use Cold Breath to inflict Freeze, which Body Temp also negates. Finally it attacks with Virus Crunch, which will KO its target, but more importantly, inflict it with Virus. A Phoenix Down will revive the fallen to critical HP, which is important for Hades later. I repeated this process for the other 3 characters until everyone has the Virus status, so I can safely kill Chimera afterward without taking EXP.
Once at the save point, I used the same setups that I had when I fought Maliris not to long ago, but now Steiner has the Excalibur II. My party is set up as follows:
Amarant LV 1 - Kaiser Knuckles, Green Beret, Bone Wrist, Power Vest, Black Belt
(Body Temp, Devil Killer, MP Attack)
Freya LV27 - Holy Lance, Mythril Helm, Venetia Shield, Minerva's Plate, Barette
(Body Temp, Devil Killer, MP Attack, Distract)
Steiner LV 1 - Excalibur II, Cross Helm, Venetia Shield, Diamond Armor, Dark Matter
(Body Temp, Devil Killer, MP Attack, Distract)
Zidane LV22 - The Tower, Green Beret, Bone Wrist, Judo Uniform, Rebirth Ring
(Body Temp, Devil Killer, MP Attack, Distract, Master Thief, Bandit)
With the above setups, Hades' Freeze and Mustard Bomb are completely harmless. Judgment Sword only reduces its target's HP to 1 so it will not KO anyone, but Cleave, Curse, and Doomsday will spell Game Over for my party. Luckily, Hades will have to power up his sword before the latter two can be used, giving me enough time to dispatch him. So as long as Cleave doesn't appear, this battle is easy.
But don't get in such a hurry to make short work of this boss. Like the four Choas Guardians, Hades also holds a missable item, a third copy of Running Shoes, which must be stolen before the battle ends. He also holds a Reflect Ring, Battle Boots, and a Robe of Lords, which require a lot of synthesizing to get. So have Zidane steal every turn, and attack with everyone else. Do NOT use Charge unless Hades is powering up his sword, and you have stolen the Running Shoes at least. Hades has max speed, so unless he uses Freeze or Mustard Bomb, expect to get only 2 attacks in every round.
The big highlight of this battle was that Zidane stole all 4 items, and just getting the Running Shoes before a last-minute Charge ended the battle! I will definitely keep this save and still under 11 hours!!!
