Final Fantasy IX Perfect Game Leftovers - Quale
The thumbnail for this video turned out to be perfect!!!
Since fighting Quale requires a few hours and many rounds of frog catching, I take the opportunity to do a few Cotton Robe tricks, fight the Crystal Chaoses within the Crystal World for Gil and AP, and aquire all of the equipment necessary to learn as many abilities for my main party since there is nothing better to do at the moment.
Once I am ready to take on Quale, the party is set up as follows:
Zidane LV 22 - Ultima Weapon, Green Beret, Power Wrist, Power Vest, Ribbon
(Accuracy+, Antibody, Clear Headed, Distract, Man Eater, Bandit, Master Thief)
Steiner LV 1 - Excalibur II, Mythril Helm, Diamond Gloves, Diamond Armor, Dark Matter
(Accuracy+, Antibody, Clear Headed, MP Attack)
Freya LV 27 - Holy Lance, Mythril Helm, Diamond Gloves, Minerva's Plate, Barette
(Accuracy+, Antibody, Clear Headed, MP Attack, Man Eater, Auto-Life)
Quina LV 1 - Bistro Fork, --- , --- , --- , Yellow Scarf
(Millionaire)
The first thing you will notice is that Quina is knocked out and will not participate in the battle. The only thing he/she is good for is the Millionaire ability, which is active regardless of Quina's status. The second is that my party's levels are the same as when I fought Hades, proving you don't need to level up to defeat Quale, but you do need some key abilities to survive.
Quale only uses three types of attacks: Rolling Attack which only targets one character, Water elementals and Status magics, both of which can target one character or everyone. Zidane's Ribbon and Steiner and Freya's Diamond Gloves will neutralize Quale's Water and Aqua Breath attacks. Quale's Status magics include Silence, Confuse, Blind, Poison, and Mini. Silencing physical attackers is pointless, Clear Headed guards against confusion, Accuaracy+ is a cheaper Bright Eyes ability, and Antibody prevents Poison. So the only two attacks that can slow me down are Mini and his physical attack, which a Remedy and a Phoenix Down will take care of each respectively.
The strategy is the same as it was for Hades, except there is no need to use Charge! Just steal and attack! Luckily for me, Quale never used Mini or Rolling Attack, Zidane stole all 4 items, and both Elixirs were dropped!
