This is the original PS1 version of Final Fantasy IX.
There are boatloads of scenes and individual instances where text will auto-advance.
Although this may serve as a decent video walkthrough, it was not my intention to produce such a thing.

Unfortunately, this entry does not allow you to disable or even reduce the number of random encounters without cheating and so I include random encounters as I move through each area as the story requires. I am aware that the more recent ports allow you to disable random encounters but the dungeons in this game are typically pretty short and random encounters are a part of these games.

Gameplay notes
I skip the Tantarian encounter in Alexandria due to the time it takes to deal with it disrupting the story too much. It's a gimmick fight where you cycle a boss out of a near invincible state with normal attacks and then blast it with fire magic before it goes back to being near invincible but FF9 has a slow combat system and thus the encounter easily takes 10+ minutes. This would make it the longest single boss fight so far and likely in the entire playthrough. All for some auto-haste boots and haste is not good in this game.

I did forget where Moodon was.

In between Lindblum and Village, I went to Esto before the story requires it to purchase an item that would no longer be in stock by the time the story sends you there. So, there's no introductory scene that shows the name of the area on-screen for Esto. I ended up not using the items but better to have and not need instead of needing but not having.

During the second Desert Palace section, the stuff with Eiko and Dagger was to show the summon animations if that wasn't obvious. None of the boss encounters require carbuncle and buffs don't last very long, so I was never going to summon it outside of a random encounter. Bahamut and Odin are shown during Bran Bal as I didn't want to grind more AP at the time. I don't show Ark, mostly because there wasn't a good time to insert the optional encounter against the marble but also because I didn't want to grind anymore. It's not really worth it as it doesn't break the damage limit even though it's a nearly 2 minute animation.

Ipsen's Castle has this gimmick where weapon power is inverted and you're meant to swap to starting weapons to do full damage. Most of the chests inside the castle have starting weapons in them, so that players who sold the starting weapons wouldn't be screwed entirely. I never sold any equipment beyond cotton robes, so there was no reason to loot the chests.

For the pots, you do have to move them in that way to trigger the event.

The Behemoths in Memoria counter attacks with meteor, which deals lethal damage. Silencing them prevents this and tents have a 50% chance to silence.
I got pretty lucky with Grand Cross but luck is the deciding factor as many of the status effects it can apply cannot be blocked to begin with. The nastiest status effect is zombie, hence me lingering on the magic tag item.
