This is the PS1 version of Final Fantasy VII with the "Beacause" fan translation. It's no secret that the official translation was rushed and contained all sorts of mistakes. Beacause is a famous typo in the game, after all. The goal with this fan translation was to address those mistakes.

That said, I did flip flop on which version I should do as even though the official translation contains many mistakes, some of those mistakes were adopted into the official canon. I ended up choosing Beacause simply because there are not many edited high quality recordings of it on Youtube, whereas there all sorts of playthroughs, speedruns, let's plays, streamer archives and so on of the official translation.

After playing through the game, I think this fan translation is fantastic. It's not perfect, there are some technical issues and mistakes. This PS1 version of the translation is outdated compared to the PC version but there's really only one mistake that you'll notice and that's the translation note that made its way into the game during the big scene at the end of disc I.

The reason why I stuck with the PS1 version even though that it is outdated is because the differences aren't major and it would have been more difficult to produce this playthrough without the use of save states and the ability to uncap the frame rate for grinding purposes.

An unwanted addition for me is that this pre-patched copy removed the 9999 damage cap. I did not know this prior to recording and it didn't reveal itself to me until the end of disc II. Basically, when the game was over. Of course, I would rather not cheat and so I had to intentionally weaken myself considerably to keep things in line with how the developers intended the game to be played.

I had already dropped the better part of a month on this project and there was no way I was going to redo the entire playthrough with there only being a few steps left to go before the ending.

Although this may serve as a decent video walkthrough, it has never been my intention to produce such a thing. The goal is primarily to present the story.

Unlike the videos I produced for Final Fantasy 4, 5 and 6 as well as other RPGs, I include random encounters. The way the game is structured pretty much requires it as the sequences are very long and transitions are few and far between. I do think there is some value showing more of the dungeon environments as well as general gameplay as the playthrough progresses so going forward I may stick with this style of editing for RPG games. As the game progresses, there will be edits to save time.

There are several scenes and individual instances where text will auto-advance.

Gameplay notes
I know most people don't read descriptions but if you do read this, don't bother telling me I missed an item because I used save states to grab anything important off-screen.

Wutai is doable during disc one but since Youtube does not allow for videos longer than 12 hours and I did not know how long the video for disc one was going to be, I decided to wait. The encounters are very easy as a result but it's not a particularly difficult game to begin with.

I encountered a bug that prevented me from entering the caves containing tetra/quadra, knights of the round and mime materia. I solved it by entering the cave containing the swap/HP/MP materia first.

You can see the damage cap removal in action during boss #25 and 26. Again, I didn't know. #25 only has 30k health, so it would die quickly anyway and #26 would die to knights regardless but still, it's not what was intended. I'm not a fan of it.

There are a ton of optional consumable items in the crater and I ignore them all. I already had everything I needed to smash the remaining bosses into the dirt.
