Final Fantasy (NES) Full Playthrough/Walkthrough Part 4: Floating Castle
In honor of it's 30th anniversary being this year, I've gone back to the original NES version of Final Fantasy and created a walkthrough for it! Released in 1987 in Japan and 1990 here in the US, this, along with Dragon Quest, set many standards for console RPGs, borrowing heavily from Dungeons and Dragons. Things such as enemies being weak to a particular element or seeing each of your characters on screen during battle were introduced by the game and while it is a bit archaic, it's still a blast to play through. Keep in mind that the instructions in the walkthrough pertain only to the NES version but you can use the overall walkthrough with the other versions to beat the game (though you'll be missing the extra dungeons in the GBA/PSP/iOS/Android versions).
One of Final Fantasy's draws (and one thing that makes it so replayable) is the class system. There are six different classes in the game and you can up to 4 of each (or multiples of one if you like). Each one has it's advantage and disadvantage (such as the monk bug which requires you to update it's gear to refresh it's stats on level up) but it's permanent and provides a lot of fun and replayability.
In this video walkthrough, I'll show you how to relight all four orbs and save the world. Each part will be dedicated to an orb with the final video showing you how to take down the final boss once and for all. Because of the class system, I will show you good opportunities to upgrade equipment and get magic but all grinding and random encounters have been edited out for the sake of clarity (as well as any sections where I heal). Because of this, make sure to heal before and after bosses and save when you like. Also keep in mind that I overlevel in several parts of the walkthrough so if you like, you can adjust the grinding to your personal preferences.
In the fourth part, we take the Slab we found in the Sea Shrine to Dr. Unne who teaches us how to speak Lefien! We then take this new knowledge to Lefien and find the last remaining level 8 spells (completing our magic arsenal if you have mages) and get a bell that allows us to enter the Mirage Tower in the desert! After raiding it for treasure and returning, we tackle the Floating Castle (home of Tiamat and the notorious Warmech), raid it for treasures and take on Tiamat.
