Final Fantasy VI | Part 11: Exploring the World of Ruin

Our heroes have failed. The world is now in ruin.
A year has passed and Celes awakes on an isolated island. But Cid is ill and needs fish to heal up. Truth be told, I recommend letting him die because saving Celes just doesn't have much of an impact. You need to feed the faster fish in order to fully heal him.
So yes, let Cid die and you get Celes pleading for her grandpa to wake up and eat fish. When she finds that he is dead, she runs off to the summit of the mountain's island. Knowing that many of the people there jumped off this cliff in despair due to no hope, Celes feels that there's no hope in this world of ruin so she jumps. The SNES version had this scene neutered but it was more because Ted Woolsey had his hands tied due to Nintendo's content policies at the time. Funny enough, those policies would end up biting Nintendo in the butt years later. The scene was powerful and one of many examples of how Final Fantasy VI delivered with its storytelling.
Celes did survive the fall and finds a bird with a headband belonging to Locke. It makes her wonder if the others are still alive. She finds a letter by Cid who says to take a raft and find her friends to save the world from Kefka who has become a god. First she finds Sabin who's trying to prevent a house from collapsing. Celes goes in to save the boy and escapes. Next the two find Edgar who is known as Gerad. They follow him and his band of thieves into Figaro Castle. It had sunk when the world went to hell and had to deal with some sandworms. Once they were dealt with, the castle was able to rise up once more. Afterwards, they find Setzer who has all but given up. It took Celes and the others to convince him that there's still hope. It's enough to get Setzer out of his rut and get moving. The Blackjack may be destroyed but there is another, the Falcon.
They head for Darill's Tomb and after a few battles and puzzle solving, they find it. Setzer reveals his backstory that he had a friend named Darill. The two loved airships and flying. And one day, Setzer challenged her to a race around the world to prove that his ship was better. Sadly though it ended in tragedy. Her airship crashed and she had died. He was able to repair the Falcon and had it sealed away... until now. Setzer flies the Falcon once more with one goal in mind... to search for their friends & take Kefka down.
Part 12 is where that journey begins anew. There is hope after all.
