Necrophobe guards the save point at the 4th Crystal island. He can be fought at any time by interacting with the star on the ground. Defeating him will net 2 achievements and a few bestiary entries. It is also the final stand of Gilgamesh and the last time you can get a Genji Item.

PLAN

Necrophobe begins with a barrier setup, maintained by 4 minions. As long as 1 minion is standing, Necrophobe cannot take damage. These minions also carry Auto-Reflect, so either Summons, Zeninage, Time Magic like Meteor and Comet or Bladeblitz are effective at taking them all down at once. Make sure you have Mighty Guard up if your HP values are low.

Once the barriers go down, he goes on offense and can take damage from any form of attack. He develops a weakness to every element in the game and can be flattened relatively quickly to any weapon assortment. However, you must show some restraint as killing him too fast will not give you the secret bonus this boss fight offers.

At about 10000 HP left, Gilgamesh enters the party and his theme plays. He will have a chat, say his final words then blow himself up to kill Necrophobe. Make sure you have stolen from the both of them beforehand (Gilgamesh has the Genji Armor and Necrophobe has Thief Gloves as a rare steal). If you are not sure of how well you are doing, use Libra from the White Mage spell pool to ascertain where you stand. Reduce your assault if necessary. I also recommend that you don't bring Rapid Fire into this fight.

My party setup is the same as I will handle Neo Exdeath's both forms. Gilgamesh will not have blown himself up in vain!

Firaga - Fire elemental damage to 1 party member Also castable by Barriers.
Blizzaga - Ice elemental damage to 1 party member. Also castable by Barriers.
Thundaga - Lightning elemental damage to 1 party member. Also castable by Barriers.
Holy - Holy elemental damage to 1 party member. Castable only by Barriers.
