We now enter the underbelly of the Gold Saucer, the Dustbowl. Almost immediately upon arrival, the party gets ambushed, collectively knocked out, kidnapped, and Cloud is forced to do odd-jobs to acquire food for a chocobo to win a race so Gus, the resident crime lord, can win big money.

This is probably the lamest part of the game for me. I'm really not a fan of Cloud, and apparently the rest of the party, just getting knocked out so easily. Like this gang of random thugs could have just killed them because they were all so unprepared for that. It shows Aerith getting taken hostage so I guess you could say that put Cloud off with him focusing on her, but still. Just feels a bit forced and makes the party feel weaker than they actually are.

But anyways, we can get the chocobo food by playing a box crushing mini-game, fighting some thugs, guessing the truth sayer out of a group of liars, some arena battles, hunting down a Cactuar, and by playing Queen's Blood with some guys. You can get more greens than you need and trade the excess in for gear.

Also, I really wanted to beat the shit out of Gus's righthand man here, the one that knocks out Cloud. He's just an asshole the whole time, to the point I avoided even talking to him to hear his extra lines. Sadly we never get the chance to.
