2:20:03 - Titan

It's kind of weird that this whole area is just called "Grasslands" when all the others have proper names. Oh well.

After a brief and easy chocobo mini-game, we can then use Piko in the Grasslands. Piko will allow us to traverse the swamp and go to the next area, but we really only want to do that when we're all done here and ready to move on.

The first thing you generally want to do when exploring a new open world area is complete all the available quests. Or at least start them, that way you won't have to backtrack. The quests vary from area to area and certain ones will raise relationship with your party members.

There's several things we can find in the open world. There's towers, because of course they are. Finding and climbing these will make other intel icons appear on the map so you know where to go next, so they're a good place to start. There are rare monster fights, where you fight what is usually a slightly altered version of a standard enemy type with a unique attack or two. These have challenges to complete mid-fight, but you don't seem to get anything for doing them so I don't really bother if they're too annoying to do. You still get the intel points just for clearing the fight. MAI, the AI that Chadley created, also comments on all of these and will have voice lines based on what happens during these fights. You can also rechallenge these fights at any time.

There are chocobo rest stops, but those don't count toward world intel. They just provide a fast travel point and reward a Golden Plume, which can be traded for chocobo gear. Gear is purely cosmetic for now, but there will be a racing mini-game involving chocobos later where gear actually affects their stats and abilities, so there's actually a purpose to collecting them all.

There's Lifespring crystals, which have crafting materials littered all around them. Oh right, there's crafting in the game, but it's pretty unobtrusive. You just collect stuff as you go along and can use it to create items. I never had to go out of my way to grind for anything. Examining Lifespring crystals will get you some background lore on the area your in and reveal excavation spots and finally a unique boss when you find them all. Excavation spots reward you with the schematics to craft new accessories and items and the unique boss usually drops some sort of item important to a quest.

There's Divine intel spots that, as mentioned before, can weaken summons so they're easier to defeat and obtain as materia. But they also level up said materia so even if you already beat it, there's still a reason to find them.

There's Mogstools, which give you access to the Mog Shop after you complete a mini-game about rounding up some moogles. Well, "mooglets" is what they're called. But I swear, that just sounds like a slur to me... Anyways, the Mog Shop has some Manuscripts and other rare items. Manuscripts give characters more SP, which is something you really want and will need all of them to fully unlock the skills on their Folios.

There's scenic locals you can find after talking to the photographer in the main town of any given area. He wants you to go there and take a picture, but all you need to do is enter photo mode, no need to actually screen shot. Reporting back to him ups your rank and...doesn't really seem to do much else.

And there's "phenomena" which are different for each area, having some quest line that leads to obtaining a Protorelic. Which does nothing on its own, but after you collect them all...I dunno, I'm not that far in the game yet. But they're unique so they're usually entertaining to do.

I think that covers about everything. I fight Titan again towards the end of the video. He's a lot easier with even just one debuff applied, and especially with a properly set up party to take advantage of his wind weakness. Cloud can counter his direct physical attacks, but his ground pound shockwaves can't be countered so you have to be prepared to dodge those.
