1:02:45 - Quetzalcoatl

We finish up everything in the Grasslands for this part. First we visit the Mogstool, which is where we complete a mini-game by rounding up some moogles to unlock the Mogshop. The shop sells rare accessories and manuscripts. It's worth doing just for the manuscripts.

After that, I start going after the first Protorelic. When going after protorelics, you generally get some kind of storyline to go along with them. This one is about Burke's gang from the first game. Honestly, it's probably the most boring one because these guys pretty much wore out their welcome in the first game. The sneaking mini-game for the 2nd one is especially annoying.

During that, I go and fight Quetzalcoatl, the optional boss of this area. You only get access to bosses like this after examining all the Lifespring crystals. Quetzalcoatl uses lightning attacks throughout the fight. The lightning balls can be countered back with Synergy skills that counter projectiles, though I don't really start utilizing that until later. Hell I was still getting tutorials for Synergy in this fight, so I was still getting used to it. Quetz will take flight during the course of the fight so projectile attackers like Barret and Aerith can be good to hit it effectively during all phases of the fight. Aerith can go down quick, but she can hit its Ice weakness for heavy damage. Blizzard and its variants are the easiest spells to miss though, they have a bit of a delay before they explode into an ice AoE attack, so you don't want to do it while it's actively moving around.

For Assessing enemies and completing various other World Intels, Chadley will unlock more VR simulations to play. These will reward materia upon completion, some good, some meh. Fun to clear at least once either way. Towards the bottom, there will be simulations to unlock more skills for the Enemy Skill materia, which you want to do for sure. Enemy Skills are very useful and the materia itself buffs everything, so it's useful on everyone. We start with Sonic Boom, a wind attack that casts an Atk/Def buff on the user. Very reliable, worth using in every boss fight. For assessing enemies in this area, we learn Plasma Discharge, which electrifies the user and causes them to erupt a lightning AoE attack automatically as they perform other actions. Pretty good, just means extra DPS and coverage. Worth using in boss fights unless an enemy absorbs lightning or something.
