Final Fantasy XIV A Realm Reborn The Chrysalis MT
SPOILERS I guess? Lol. I have cutscenes on auto skip though and the patch has been out long enough but just in case. Also note this is not a VG it's more of a runthrough of this trial but I'll just include some tips here.
Playing the Main Tank this time in The Chrysalis trial. I have to say it's much more of a challenge this way. Although it depends on your Healers. Prior to this run I had a disastrous attempt and the healers were not keeping me alive. Here the healers were really on top of things. There was never any serious danger, no need to use Holmgang even when tanking Triple. I highly recommend using Focus Target on the boss here too.
This fight really isn't all that bad. A lot of work for the Healers though since if the main tank dies it will descend into chaos. As Main tank I just had to help them keep me alive by using my cooldowns when necessary and keep the boss on me of course.
When the boss goes to the middle and becomes invulnerable he will spam orbs. DPS are meant to touch the orbs but alternate so they don't get the same orb twice, if orbs reach the boss he will gain stacks and can wipe you. Shadow Sprites also spawn and will inflict Heavy with their huge AOE so tanks need to grab them and face them away from the party.
After that he'll teleport around and spam End of Days, a laser AoE that is pretty easy to dodge. He'll then attack the tank a little bit, teleport and use End of Days again.
Another orb phase will happen just like before and then more teleporting with End of Days, Double, Triple and Quake III, Quake III being unavoidable damage to the entire party. Then he'll inflict everyone with blight and try to pull them into a portal. Resist the pull by going in the opposite direction. Once blight's duration is finished you'll be pulled in automatically. Note that buffs will also be extended for the duration once you are pulled in.
Now the fun part comes, the meteor phase. Here the tanks and one healer typically soak up the meteors while the DPS kill the tear, the tear spawning where the first meteor crashed. It's wise to use melee LB 3 on the tear since you need to kill it before the giant meteor in the center hits the ground.
After that just burn him. It's not so bad. The majority of the party were first timers but man they really knew what to do here. Much smoother than my first attempt here. No wipes.
Paladins might have an easier time tanking this too BTW but..I prefer playing Warrior. So many good times, so many low level roulette runs where I'm the sole survivor at the end lol. That and Storm's Path and Eye.
