Final Fantasy XIV_ The Second Coil of Bahamut - Turn 4 1st Time Completion, Red Mage Solo
As a casual player, I never did the A Realm Reborn raids the Coils of Bahamut when they came out in 2013 and 2014. Years later during the Stormblood expansion, at level 70, I soloed all the Coil turns up to the Second Coil of Bahamut - Turn 4, or T9. No one had soloed T9 with any level 70 job. I sure was not going to.
Because you have to complete T9 in order to unlock the Final Coil of Bahamut, I waited for the next expansion, which increased the level cap to 80. During the Shadowbringers expansion, a number of players have since soloed T9 with different level 80 DPS and tank jobs, some in less than a minute.* At least one has even soloed T9 Savage with a level 80 red mage! A couple of days ago, I decided to finish soloing all the Coils of Bahamut, from T9 to T13, and complete the Coils of Bahamut for the first time - all of the Coil turns soloed.
I now have the title, "The Final Witness."
For variety, I soloed T9 with a level 80 red mage, T10 with a level 80 white mage, T11 with a level 80 dancer, T12 with a level 70 blue mage, and T13 with a level 80 machinist to complete the Coils of Bahamut.
I did not use my favorite job to solo content, my (level 80, ilevel 516+) paladin even once. I had soloed T1 - T8 for the first time completion of those Coil turns using my then level 70 paladin, with my then level 70 red mage soloing T5.
As you will see in these Coil videos, I am more than a bit rusty playing these jobs. (Also, I am an older player with slower reflexes, less quick to think on my feet, etc.) For example, my white mage solo of T10 was really bad. Among other things, I forgot to use many white mage and general mage actions like Tetragrammaton, Presence of Mind, Thin Air, Afflatus Rapture, Plenary Indulgence, Temperance, and even Lucid Dreaming, I think. Does Esuna work on Paralysis by those coeurls? I played white mage much better when I leveled it up to 80 over a year ago. At least then, I used those actions.
Similarly, my dancer solo of T11 was pretty bad. And just before going into the last Coil turn, T13, I scrambled to to include a few post-level 50 actions on - e.g., Drill, Bioblaster, Flamethrower - which I had neglected to include before.
My less than stellar gameplay in these Coil videos on YouTube, however, proves that one does not have to be a great player to be able to solo the Coils of Bahamut these days, given current available gear and level caps. It took less than a day for me to solo each of the Coil turns, from T1 to T13. Some are harder than others - you can solo some of them with a level 70 blue mage - while the hardest one, T9, can be done with a number of level 80 DPS and tank jobs.
Still, it seems it does take some skill, practice, and patience to be able to solo T9. I have read many recent comments on YouTube and elsewhere by players who try very hard but still cannot solo T9. Apparently, they cannot overcome that DPS check. Some even say they cannot beat the golem phase, much less bypass it, as some highly skilled players have done.
But if I can solo the entire Coils of Bahamut, having never played them before, plenty of other people can do it too.
*Can anyone solo T9 with level 80 healer jobs? I have yet to see any video of a level 80 healer soloing T9. Healers do not seem to have enough firepower to kill Nael before those annoying dragon adds kill them, nor do they have the tanks defensive actions - e.g., the warrior's Holmgang - which can extend their time to DPS down and defeat Nael before the adds can KO them.
