FFXIV: Blue Mage Solo of The Howling Eye (Extreme) to Learn Spell #44 Feather Rain
16After numerous solo attempts resulting in dozens of Garuda deaths, I finally learned Spell #44, Feather Rain. Garuda took far more attempts to learn her action than with any other boss or mob. It usually takes me one, two, or three times to learn a spell in these instances. (It did take me several solo attempts to learn Devour in The Binding Coils of Bahamut - Turn 1.) Garuda's Slipstream won't come close to killing you if you're lv. 70, ilv. 400 (unless you have very low hp), but it stuns you if it hits you (unless you're stun resistant). You can get by largely ignoring mechanics as a lv. 70 blue mage. (I mimicked a tank.) But unless you can burn Garuda down fast, you better kill those two adds, Chirada and Suparna, or Garuda will do a lot of damage with Aerial Blast, maybe killing you, even as a lv. 70 blue mage tank. I target Chirada first, since she isn't initially tethered to Garuda like Suparna is. My action of choice: 3 or 4 Surpanakhas (learned from Ravana in Thok ast Thok [Hard], which I also soloed to learn), which should finish off an untethered Chirada. You may get lucky and kill both Chirada and Suparna with 4 Surpanakhas.
