Hajime Tabata recently took part in a panel at GDC 2017, where he spoke about the success of Final Fantasy XV.
It looked a very different topics, but the main focus was how they overcame challenges throughout the development of Final Fantasy 15. Some of this relates to increasing the sales targets, but there was also a very real vibe within the company that if Final Fantasy XV failed, the franchise wouldn't be able to recover and it would legitimately have been the last main series Final Fantasy game.
