Part 20 - Falling Star

And that's Final Fantasy XVI! While I'd recommend it to fans of the franchise, as I would most other entries, it does come with the major asterisk that it is a different Final Fantasy than most, even for ones that buck the curve hard like XVI does, and as such I'd recommend XVI to newcomers first, sort of as a gateway title into the series proper. Cuz while action games don't quite describe all of Final Fantasy, Final Fantasy is whatever it wants to be at the time: it's not static, it continues to change and evolve with the times, it's why it's been around since '87.

Not everyone who likes Final Fantasy likes action games, a few longtime fans may just want turn-based combat. Some fans just wanna be told a story, doesn't matter what they have to play to get there. Others play all of them, like myself, just to experience what a new installment can bring: what does it keep from previous entries, what does it do now, how does it borrow from other series? All interesting questions for me, so at the time of this video's release in August 2023, know the game was both the most loved and most loathed FF title, as is every new mainline entry until the next one drops and people turn their affection and apathy towards that one. As for XVI, its lows can be pretty low, but its highs are some of the highest in the series for what it achieves and aims for in pure spectacle and some intriguing dramatic moments.

Anywho, see y'all next time for Crisis Core Reunion next year when Final Fantasy VII Rebirth drops! That'll hold over the YouTube uploads as I play through Rebirth myself and get that ready for posting once I have a grasp on the game, maybe via Hard Mode's NG+ if it's anything as good as Remake's was. I plan on reviewing most, if not all, of the mainline Final Fantasy games and their subseries, including spinoffs and sequels related to mainline entries, so wish me luck on that endeavor once my Kingdom Hearts III Re Mind video eventually comes out! Here's hoping Ever Crisis is a fun recap of the Compilation of FFVII and not just a gacha hell game.
