finalRender Subscription Drop 2.0 biasHybrid + Incredible Speedup
The Big Speedup - finalRender Subscription Drop 2 represents the biggest enhancement so far. A new biased Lightcache system, a general reduction in overall memory usage and new algorithms throughout, offers the best trueHybrid™ rendering experience yet. GPU kernel memory usage has been reduced by up to 50% on newer NVIDIA cards. True unbiased CPU and GPU processing time has been sped up by up to 25%. Now, considerable fewer passes are needed to achieve a cleaner result in less time. Depending on the individual scene setup rendering speedups of 2 times or more are not unusual to see with this new release of finalRender.
AI Denoiser - now fully supports HDRI color values which allow for full tone mapping operations after the fact. This new denoiser also uses less memory and starts faster, when invoked for the first time.
Physical Material - finalRender now fully supports the standard Autodesk Physical Material which makes it perfect for scenes created with previous versions of 3ds Max or scenes created for Arnold and ART. 3ds Max own scene converter also offers to convert materials into the standard Physical material, by default.
Sub Surface Scattering - has been enhanced dramatically. The new SSS now uses Random Walk methods to enhance the look and calculation quality of subsurface scattering. It is physically accurate and lets you control the absorption of light based on its individual wavelength spectrum. SSS works much better now with cavities and thin protrusions on the surface. However, a clean and properly modeled object is still needed.
Particle instancing in thinkingParticles - a new GPU friendly and highly optimized instancing code has been developed to directly support thinkingParticles' particle instancing feature.
Lightcache - finalRender now offers a highly optimized Light Cache system to speed up secondary GI ray calculations. This new mode represents a real breakthrough in Hybrid GPU and CPU global illumination rendering. finalRender Subscription Drop 2 masterfully balances the act of achieving physically accurate results while gaining in rendering speed. This is achieved by reducing the random noise through the use of Lightcache technology at render time. Renderings created with Lightcache, when compared to fully unbiased renderings, will show little to no visual difference at all. For the first time, a biased rendering method has been "married" with a true unbiased spectral based rendering technology! It is like achieving the task of squaring the circle. finalRender perfectly combines those contradictory rendering methods into one simple to use but powerful package. To learn more click HERE
Area Lights - while not new, the math behind them has been totally rewritten. In Subscription Drop 2 Area lights are producing less noise and behave more natural when close to other surfaces. An increasing amount of light sources in a scene will show considerable speed gains when compared to pre Drop 2 releases.
Sky Portal - the sampling method for Sky Portals in Subscription Drop 2 has been enhanced as well. Random noise caused by Sky Portals is reduced to a minimum now. Scenes that have been problematic before are now rendering like a charm!
