[Synopsis]
In this video, you can hear all the soundtracks for Thexder II. The NEC PC-9801 used the Yamaha YM2608 sound chip. The Yamaha YM2608 had 6 channel FM synthesis sound system. This game was released for the NEC PC-8801, and MS-DOS. On the MS-DOS version, two sound cards are supported, one is for the Adlib sound card, and the other is for the Roland MT-32. The Roland MT-32 sounds the best, but it was the most expensive sound card back in the late 1980s and early 1990s.
The Adlib could produce 9 sound channels, or 6 sound channels and 5 hit instruments at the same time. It also had a much better music chip which was based on the Yamaha YM3812. The Adlib midi music was a little bit better compared to the NEC PC-8801. Never the less, the sound from the NEC PC-8801 was many times better than the internal speaker sound from a PC. The YM2608 could also produce sounds which the Adlib could not, so for sound the Adlib had to rely on the PC speakers. On the other hand, the NEC PC-8801 could produce sounds with the YM2608. It was capable of producing 3 channels of pulse wave synthesis and one noise channel. It had ADPCM Sound Source with a single channel for samples in 8-bit ADPCM format at a sampling rate between 2 to 16 kilohertz. The YM2608 chip was used on the NEC PC-9801 which was a 16 bit computer.
